I was absolutely nodding my head and yelling AMEN as I was reading this. I worked for several years at a domestic violence shelter, and the items that people would bring in never ceased to baffle me. Used underwear? Stained and dirty linens? Who needs that? The cost to store, and process (and often clean) many of those donations took up valuable staff time and resources that would have been better spent on our mission. People are very generous and kind, but sometimes they need to be educated on where their time, energy, and stuff could go to the best use. No one should take this article personally — they should honestly read it with the viewpoint that they want to help the largest amount of people, for the lowest amount of cost. That is everyone’s aim. Thank you!
